Inci Mehmet: Former Professional Golfer, Now Golf Broadcaster and Influencer

Not to be confused with İnce Memed, the series of epic novels written by Turkish author Yaşar Kemal, Inci Mehmet wanted to be a magician or a footballer when she was younger. That is in spite of the fact that she was introduced to golf as a four-year-old, going on to become a talent in the sport before turning her hand to the world of broadcasting. With a mother from South Korea and a father from Turkey, it is little surprise that she grew up in a multicultural household and had a drive to succeed that doubtless came from having to master two different sides of her family life. From golfer to broadcaster, the transition was smooth.

Mehmet in the Media

When Inci Mehmet retired from professional golf, she made the decision to make the transition into the world of broadcasting. That was obviously something that was easy enough for her to do, thanks to her background as a golfer at the top level appealing to numerous different broadcasters. Of course, if you want to watch golf in the United Kingdom, the chances are that you will have to turn to Sky Sports in order to do so. That is why Mehmet began working for Sky Sports Golf in 2019, featuring in the channel’s coverage of golfing events as both a pundit and an analyst, guiding viewers through the action they were watching.

Fan Favourite Presenter and Pundit

Her knowledge and experience were put to good use, offering analysis of the shot decisions being made by players as well as the strategies being used in tournaments. She looked at the likes of techniques being displayed by the golfers taking part in competitions that were being shown by Sky Sports Golf, breaking them down to be easiest to understand for the watching public. The combination of her in-depth knowledge of the sport and her vibrant personality allowed her to become a fan favourite, featuring on broadcasts of both the PGA Tour events as well as competitions being played on the LPGA Tour, regularly offering her thoughts.

Offering Her Expertise in Commentary Booth

As well as working in the Sky Sports Golf studio as a presenter and pundit, Mehmet has also appeared in the commentary booth and has carried out on-course commentary. It isn’t just Sky Sports Golf that has made use of Mehmet’s talent either. The former professional golfer has also appeared on both European Tour Productions and IMG Productions, offering her expertise to their coverage. By turning to her own experiences of life on the golf course, Mehmet is able to bring a perspective to coverage that viewers might not be able to think of themselves. That offers a deeper understanding of both the players and the game.

Educating Viewers on the Life of a Golfer

Mehmet has looked to learn and evolve as a broadcaster, constantly hoping to educate viewers as well as offer them a sense of how life as a golfer is different to a normal life. By being able to share her experiences, Mehmet has attempted to encourage other female players to push themselves and try to go further in the sport. She also has a strong social media presence, where she is able to offer a glimpse of life behind the scenes as she both prepares for a day’s broadcasting or gets herself ready to head into work. The significant presence that golf has had in her life means that she’s always thinking and talking about the game.

Mehmet the Golfer

Inci Mehmet was born in Richmond upon Thames on the second of October 1996. Having first picked up a golf club when she was a four-year-old, she gained a scholarship to Wentworth Golf Club, becoming the Surrey club’s youngest ever ladies champion when she was 15. Throughout her time on the amateur circuit, Mehmet represented England, being selected for the Elite England Golf girls squad before progressing to the women’s squad. She went to qualifying school in 2016, finishing 12th in order to earn her right to play on the Ladies European Tour and becoming the top-ranked British player in the same year, aged just 20.

As she was growing up, Mehmet was taught to ‘regularly play with people better’ than she was in order to push herself to improve. Having been given £20 at the weekend by her mother, she would spend £19 of that on golf balls at her local range and spend the remaining £1 on lunch, which was obviously a big help in her becoming the successful player that she did. Although it didn’t lead to any major titles on the Ladies European Tour, it set her in good stead to play alongside some of the best female golfers in the world. She also took part in numerous Majors, including the Women’s British Open and the Scottish Ladies Open.

Boasting a playing style that saw her remain calm under pressure and technically strong, she was also an emotionally intelligent player – all traits that would also allow her to succeed in the world of broadcasting. In 2025, she decided to use her knowledge and experience in order to found GIMME, a marketplace and digital community platform for golf that attempts to modernise how golfers connect with both one another and the sport in general. She has also had numerous brand ambassador roles during her career, including ones with Adidas EU and Callaway Golf. In the May of 2024, she got engaged to businessman Sam McCarthy, with whom she co-founded GIMME.
